Ompi Hospital Heroes Work 12-Hour Shift Without Food to Aid Flood Victims

Ompi, 24th August 2024: In an extraordinary act of dedication, the medical team from Ompi Hospital undertook a marathon 12-hour shift without food to serve flood-affected citizens. On a single day, the staff visited seven different relief camps, delivering crucial medical care to those displaced by the ongoing flooding crisis.

The relentless downpours in the region have caused significant devastation, forcing hundreds of families to take refuge in temporary relief camps. Faced with this humanitarian emergency, the staff from Ompinagar Community Health Centre rose to the occasion, putting the needs of the community before their own.

Leading the mission was Dr. Satyajit Paul, the Medical Officer In-Charge, who along with his dedicated team of paramedics and support staff, worked with unparalleled commitment. Among the team members were Mr. Ratan Kalai (PMAM), Mr. Prasenjit Das (MPW), Mr. Jopila Sadhan Jamatia (MPW), Mr. Gulok Kalai (Sweeping Staff), and Mr. Niranjan Jamatia (Driver). Together, they visited relief camps set up in Haripur High School, Tingharia High School, Maruabari SB School, Komlai Bari SB School, Mandai Bari SB School, and Nograi SB School.

At each site, the medical team faced overwhelming challenges, treating flood-related injuries, administering essential medicines, and addressing illnesses caused by the unsanitary conditions in the camps. Despite their exhaustion and the lack of food, the staff never wavered in their duties. They worked tirelessly, often under difficult conditions, ensuring that every patient received proper care.

The heroic efforts of these healthcare workers have not gone unnoticed. Flood victims expressed their gratitude, acknowledging that the presence of the Ompi Hospital staff brought hope and relief during this trying time. Many of the displaced citizens, especially children and the elderly, were in desperate need of medical attention, and the timely intervention by the hospital's staff was critical in preventing the spread of disease and alleviating suffering.

“Our priority was to ensure that no one was left without medical care,” said Dr. Paul. “It was a long and exhausting day, but the wellbeing of our community comes first. Everyone on our team went above and beyond.”

The local administration has also praised the Ompi Hospital team for their resilience, noting that their selflessness and dedication during this disaster exemplify the very best of public service. Despite facing difficulties themselves, the staff carried out their duties with professionalism and compassion, embodying the spirit of service that is so vital during times of crisis.

The floods in the region continue to pose significant health risks, and the Ompi Hospital team remains on high alert, prepared to respond to further emergencies. Their unwavering commitment to the health and safety of the community stands as a testament to the strength and solidarity of the healthcare system in Ompinagar.
