Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to conduct an immediate inquiry into alleged irregularities in the construction of a rural road in South Tripura district. The decision came after several local residents raised concerns over poor quality work and incomplete drainage systems.

According to official sources, the road, which was sanctioned under the PMGSY scheme last year, was expected to connect remote tribal hamlets near Taidu. However, residents allege that despite several months of work, the road remains unusable during the monsoon season, with large potholes and waterlogging making it dangerous for commuters.

Local MLA Pathanlal Jamatia, during a recent inspection, expressed dissatisfaction over the pace and quality of the project. He urged the state government to take strong action against contractors found guilty of negligence or corruption.

"We cannot compromise with the lives and safety of people in rural areas. The government is committed to ensuring transparency and quality in development works," said the Chief Minister during a press briefing.

The PWD has been given a deadline of two weeks to submit its report. Officials confirmed that a team of engineers has already visited the site for inspection.

This development comes at a time when the state government is under pressure to fast-track infrastructure works before the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Locals hope the investigation will bring justice and ensure better monitoring of public projects in the region.
