Tripura government introduces meter-based fare collection for auto-rickshaws to boost public transportation in Agartala

Agartala, Tripura - In a move to enhance the public transportation system of Agartala, the Tripura government has taken a crucial step by revoking route licenses for auto-rickshaws operating in the municipal area of the city. As per the latest announcement made by the Transport Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, a meter-based fare collection system will now be in place for any distance covered by auto-rickshaws operating in the area.

The decision comes as an effort to curb the increasing number of personal vehicles in the city, which has been leading to heavy traffic congestion and rising pollution levels. The Minister noted that similar measures are being implemented in several other metro cities across the country to regulate and streamline public transportation.

As part of the first phase of implementation, over 1,571 auto-rickshaws in Agartala will now have meters installed. This is expected to provide commuters with a more convenient and transparent mode of transport, as they will be charged according to the actual distance covered.

This move has been widely appreciated by the citizens of Agartala who have been facing difficulties in commuting due to the lack of a proper public transport system. The auto-rickshaw drivers have also welcomed the decision, stating that the meter-based fare collection system will prevent disputes between drivers and passengers over fare prices.

While some auto-rickshaw drivers have raised concerns over the implementation of this system, the government has assured them that proper training will be provided to ensure a smooth transition. The government has also assured that strict action will be taken against those found violating the rules.

This decision is expected to bring about a positive change in the public transportation system of Agartala, making it more convenient and affordable for the citizens.
