Tripura Government Closes COVID Testing Centres at Entry Points

According to a senior health official, the Tripura government has closed all COVID-19 testing centers at entry points to the northeastern state. Visitors can now enter the state without being screened or tested for COVID. The decision was made due to a decrease in the number of cases recorded in recent weeks.

State Surveillance Officer Dr Deep Debbarma explained that "as the COVID pandemic has been largely limited, COVID testing facilities have been closed down at all access points to the state."

Since the initial wave of the pandemic, COVID testing has been required at all entry points to the state, with a few exceptions. However, with the recent decrease in cases, the government has decided to lift all COVID-19 limitations for travelers, including those arriving at the MBB airport.

This decision is expected to benefit the state's tourism industry, which was severely impacted by the pandemic. The government has urged visitors to follow COVID safety guidelines, such as wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

The state has recorded a total of 38,040 COVID cases and 442 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. As of now, the state has 35 active cases, and the positivity rate is less than 0.5%.
